MIAMI (July 25, 2017) – A letter sent yesterday from the Army Corps of Engineers to the South Florida Water Management District affirmed the Army Corps’ role to advance the Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA) Reservoir as directed in Senate Bill 10.

Jacksonville District Commander, Col. Jason Kirk, responded to the South Florida Water Management District. Kirk acknowledged the role assigned to the Corps by Senate Bill 10 and expressed a commitment to working collaboratively and developing options to fulfill Senate Bill 10’s requirements.

“The Army Corps is sending a clear and positive sign that they are working with the South Florida Water Management District to develop options for building the Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA) Reservoir,” said Julie Hill-Gabriel, deputy director, Audubon Florida. “Both agencies should be commended for their cooperation. We look forward to the agencies working together to implement Senate Bill 10, reduce discharges to the sensitive coastal estuaries, and send needed freshwater south to the Everglades.”
