Proposed Road Threatens Important Bird Habitat in Walton County

Help Audubon protect Deer Lake State Park and Point Washington State Forest from the harmful impacts of this unnecessary road proposed to connect County Road 30A and US Highway 98 in Walton County. If this type of “VIP access” is granted in these protected areas, a dangerous precedent would be set for other private communities to access public lands through private access points.

Deer Lake State Park protects a rare coastal dune lake, lush landscapes and pristine beaches where state-Threatened Snowy Plovers and Least Terns are known to nest and raise their tiny chicks. In Point Washington State Forest, ten natural communities provide homes to diverse plants and animals that are listed as threatened, endangered or species of special concern, including the American Kestrel and the world's largest population of Curtiss sandgrass.

Attend the meeting hosted by Walton County about the proposed roadway connection!
