Wings, Strings and Wine at the Audubon Center for Birds of Prey

More than 60 old friends and new gathered at Audubon Center for Birds of Prey to kick off the holiday season with our Wings, Strings and Wine event on December 2.  Although it was a chilly evening, it was warmed up with hot beverages, great conversation and acoustical music.

Guests had an incredible opportunity to meet with our family of feathered friends and then to chat with Audubon staff about the Center's plans for next year.  Sheri Lewin, Florida Audubon Board Member, explained our vision of increased visibility through outreach in the community and our push for introducing new folks to Audubon with the goal of gaining their commitment and support.  Eric Draper, Executive Director, excited the crowd by talking about Audubon’s “jewel” in Maitland encouraging folks to dig deep in their hearts and wallets to help support the Center.

The message was heard and an extra special gift was given from Audubon supporters Scott and Elaine Taylor, who

offered to match, dollar for dollar, pledges up to $2,500.  Up for the challenge, some of Audubon’s newest guests increased that challenge match to $3,000.  A wonderful evening was had by all and overall the Center raised more than $10,000 to support our programs.  What a way to start the season of giving.  The buzz has started…we are looking forward to a productive and prosperous 2011!
