Pelican Island Audubon's Richard Baker Wins National Volunteer Award

Congratulations to Pelican Island Audubon Society's President Richard Baker for receiving the 2011 Charles H. Callison National Volunteer Award from the National Audubon Society. Mr. Baker, retired director of the Florida Medical Entomology Lab at the University of Florida/Institute of Food and Agriculture Sciences, now works tirelessly as an advocate for conservation in his community.

The surprise nomination came from Audubon of Florida Executive Director Eric Draper, who said, "In matters that concern water, land or wildlife conservation, Mr. Baker is right there and involved 100 percent. He is steadfast, resilient and he epitomizes the standards we look for in volunteer leadership. He really stood out in the whole country. This is the highest award for an Audubon leader."

This is a wonderful day for Richard Baker, Pelican Island Audubon Society and the Audubon of Florida family!
