Everglades Restoration is on the Chopping Block in the State Budget Proposals

Audubon’s goal for funding Everglades restoration is to secure $50 million from state funds and to persuade the South Florida Water Management District to put at least half of its annual property tax collections into restoration projects. You can help right now:

Here is how things look right now:

  • The House funds the Everglades at $26 million.
  • The Senate zeroed out Everglades funding.
  • The Senate appropriations bill has a section directing the South Florida Water Management District to cut is property taxes by 30%. This reduced revenue affect restoration spending by hundreds of millions of dollars in the short and long term.

The Everglades needs your help.

The Senate’s proposed cuts to both state appropriations and spending by the Water District will cause important projects to languish. Funds are needed to build projects to help:

  • Clean up polluted water in the Everglades
  • Recover Lake Okeechobee by storing and treating water
  • Preventing harm to coastal estuaries
