LANDOWNER: United States Fish and Wildlife Service: Key Deer National Wildlife Refuge

TYPE(S) OF RESTORATION: Invasive exotic and debris removal, freshwater wetland restoration.

Although this tract of land is not large, its restoration has removed an invasive exotic seed source and restored vital freshwater wetlands to Big Pine Key. Access to fresh water is the limiting factor for the survival of many animals and birds in the keys, and this site is now frequented by the endangered Key Deer as well as many species of migratory birds and over-wintering ducks.

Before restoration, Tract EV was overrun with exotic plants. After restoration, Tract EV provides healthy wetland habitat.
