Audubon Aims to Protect Everglades Water Quality

Palm Beach County Commissioners (sitting as the Solid Waste Authority Board) are considering siting a landfill .1 miles from Stormwater Treatment Area 1 West (STA 1W).  STA 1W is an integral facet of Florida's legal obligation to clean-up water entering the Everglades.

A small increment of pollution entering STA 1W from the landfill could devastate the effectiveness of STA 1W to clean water.  Audubon advocates asked the South Florida Water Management District to protect its property and oppose the siting of a landfill across from STA 1W.
