Audubon Cheers Signing of America's Water Infrastructure Act of 2018

Newly-signed federal legislation includes key Everglades restoration project championed by Audubon members

This week, President Trump signed the America's Water Infrastructure Act of 2018 into law- officially authorizing the Audubon-championed Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA) Reservoir! Congratulations to the thousands of Audubon members who joined Audubon Florida in getting this project through the Florida Legislature, the U.S. Congress, and the White House! This is a great victory for America’s Everglades, South Florida families, and the hundreds of bird species that depend on clean water and a restored Everglades ecosystem.

“The recurring toxic algae blooms in South Florida and the 2015 seagrass die-off in Florida Bay tell us our watershed is sick,” said Celeste De Palma, Audubon Florida’s director of Everglades policy. “Implementing Everglades restoration projects like the EAA reservoir is the antidote the ecosystem needs.”

With the project authorized, Audubon is already gearing up to secure the funding needed to break ground on this critical Everglades project. Audubon members need to keep up the pressure and secure funding to get these restoration projects in place fast! To learn how you can help, sign up for Audubon emails at FL.Audubon.org/SignUp.
