Audubon Hits the Beach Saturday to Fight Drilling

From the Ledger.com:

On Saturday you may see volunteers from Audubon of Florida and other environmental groups at one of your favorite beaches. They plan to be at St. Pete Beach, Clearwater Beach and  Daytona Beach.

The campaign involves an effort to  to educate beachgoers about alternatives to offshore oil drilling in Florida. It appears that a political fight will occur in Tallahassee over the next year concerning this subject.

The issue for environmentalists is the potential decline in the qualityof Florida’s beaches,  similar to what beachgoers reportedly already experience in Texas. Some beachfront hotels issue cleaning suppllies to guests to remove the tarballs from their feet before they return inside.

The beaches have already endured enough insults as a rsult of overdevelopment, armoring and stormwater pollution. Why make things worse appears to be the question the campaign is raising.

If you want to participate on Saturday, please see the below post.
