Audubon Weighs In On Growth Management Debate in Legislature

The article below from Monday’s edition of the Daytona Beach News Journal describes the debate in the Legislature over Growth Management Legislation, and Audubon’s efforts to weigh in to change the course of this legislation.

"The basic goals of a growth management bill sailing through committee hearings in the Florida Senate sound good to many. Its sponsor aims for it to kick-start the state's sluggish economy. And he's in a hurry.

Senator Mike Bennett, R-Bradenton, expects the bill to be approved during the second week of the session that starts Tuesday.

Promoting growth in the right places by simplifying regulations and removing new road requirements in dense urban areas are good things, said Charles Lee, director of advocacy for Audubon of Florida. But this bill, Lee said, is a "false promise.""
