Oil Drilling Forces Back Off, At Least For Now

John Thrasher, one of the chief lobbyists for the organization pushing for a law to open Florida coastal waters for oil or gas exploration and drilling, says the lobbying team is standing down its effort and not actively pursuing it.

Opponents of the idea are worried that even though Senate President Jeff Atwater opposes it and says he doesn’t want it to come up—which normally would mean it’s dead—proponents and the powerful lobbying team are still trying to push it onto the Senate floor in some form. The measure already has passed the House.
