Thelma Christine Magures Phillips, President of Choctawhatchee Audubon Society, passed away peacefully Feb. 3, 2009, surrounded by her family.  Mrs. Phillips was born on Feb. 25, 1934, to William Franklin Magures and Daisy Lee Claxton Magures in Kemp, Texas.  She is survived by her husband of 55 years and her four children.

“Her positive attitude and enthusiasm for Choctawhatchee Audubon was apparent and I know she was bringing new energy to the Chapter.  It is leaders like Thelma that we depend upon to carry out the vision of connecting people with Nature.   On behalf of the Audubon family we offer our deepest sympathies,” said David Anderson, Executive Director of Audubon of Florida.
