Audubon Advocates make a difference for our remarkable parks.
Thank you to our Audubon Advocates for continuing your strong support for our public lands during this busy Legislative Session. In the past 4 days, thousands of you sent emails and made phone calls to Florida Legislators urging them to stand up for our parks and conservation lands. Today we are proud to let you know that your voices have made a difference. Thank you to Rep. Debbie Mayfield (R-Vero Beach) who passionately defended our public conservation lands in committee.
The two ill-considered public lands bills we informed you of last week from Representative Jimmie Smith (R-Lecanto) and Senator Thad Altman (R-Melbourne) (HB 33 and SB 466) have been TP'd, or Temporarily Postponed in committee. If they passed, they would have allowed that any bordering landowner to lay claim to state-owned lands - including state parks, forests, and wildlife management areas.
Thanks to your efforts, these bills will most likely not be up for a vote again this year.
Thank you for all that you do for Florida. Stay connected by signing up for our Audubon Advocate eNewsletter, click here.
