Lucky Lucinda gets her name because she was shot twice and is still alive. And the person who shot her is still at large.
Lucinda was shot on July 21. She's also the second Osprey to have been shot in Bay County in a 10-day period. Stan Kirkland, spokesperson for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, said Wednesday that investigators have a suspect in the shooting and are close to filing charges. Ospreys are protected under the U.S. Migratory Bird Act; shooting one is a misdemeanor and can result in a maximum $500 fine and 60 days in jail. Kirkland said this shooting is not connected to a July 11 incident in St. Andrews, when someone shot an osprey. The osprey fell into the water, and someone allegedly tried to drown it with a hose. The bird survived but had to be euthanized.
