Audubon Leader Honored by Stetson University

Former Florida Audubon Society President Clay Henderson was recently by Stetson University with the prestigious George and Mary Hood Award.  This rarely given award is in recognition of extraordinary passion for, and commitment and contributions to, Stetson University and its core values.  Mr. Henderson was honored at a ceremony at the university on September 28.

Among the values of Stetson is promotion of "good stewardship and environmental responsibility."  Mr. Henderson practices in the areas of environmental law, land use and Smart Growth, and represents public agencies, large private landowners and conservation organizations. He is well-known in Florida for his work and is credited with negotiating the preservation of more than 300,000 acres of land that is now part of parks and preserves.

“Clay Henderson is one of Florida’s great citizens and one of Audubon’s great leaders. He knows how to bring people together and always has his eye on the objective of protecting the places that make Florida special,” said Eric Draper, Executive Director Audubon Florida. “Audubon still calls on Clay for those challenging issues where we need the blended skills of passionate birder, country lawyer and skilled statesman."

Congratulations Clay!
