A major victory for America's Everglades is in hand. The Florida Legislature just passed Senate Bill 10 (SB 10), which includes the critical Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA) Reservoir project. This project will store a minimum of 240,000 acre-feet of water that can be captured from Lake Okeechobee when high water level discharges are necessary and provide a source of much-needed freshwater to the Southern Everglades and Florida Bay.
Advancing the Reservoir project has been Audubon Florida’s top legislative priority. But this win belongs to you! For months, you have been showing your support by writing, calling or meeting legislators to explain the virtue of Everglades restoration advanced by SB 10. We thank Senate President Joe Negron and Senator Rob Bradley for recognizing that storing more water south of Lake Okeechobee cannot wait any longer. This project brings us closer than ever to meeting needed Everglades storage goals.
Audubon is urging Governor Scott to sign this important legislation into law.
