In Your Yard, You Can Save Water

You can protect Florida's most precious natural resource outside of your home

Saving water in your yard is important! 50 percent of Florida water is used on our lawns. Here are some great ways you can save water in your yard!

PLANT A GARDEN
Save water outdoors by ditching the grass and planting native plants. Visit Audubon.org/PlantsForBirds to learn more.

ONLY WATER WHEN YOU NEED TO
Your lawn probably needs less water than you think. So only water when it needs it. How can you tell? Step on it. If your lawn leaves distinct footprints or the grass doesn’t spring back, then you should water.  
INSTALL A RAIN BARREL
Install a rain barrel next to your house to catch rainwater. This water can then be used to water plants and gardens. 

USE DRIP IRRIGATION
This system slowly drips the water directly onto the soil where it’s most effective, and you don’t lose as much water to evaporation.
