TYPE(S) OF RESTORATION: tidal wetland fill removal, basin filling to wetland elevations, hammock restoration. 

This 58-acre site was formerly a commercial campground and marina. Purchased by the State of Florida in 1993, restoration has been proceeding in phases since that time. The overall project consists of 25 acres of hardwood hammock restoration (completed) and 28 acres of tidal mangrove and marsh wetlands (partially complete).

FUNDING PARTNERS: Florida Department of Environmental Protection (permit mitigation and Bureau of Design), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Coastal Ecosystem Restoration Program, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Carysfort Marina prior to restoration. Two basins are to be filled in and fill will be removed from the tidal wetland.After two phases of wetland scrapedown, approximately 2/3 of the front basin has been filled. Four years after removing fill from the wetland, mangroves are returning.
