An Ounce of Prevention is Worth a Pound of Cure

Audubon told members of the Florida House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee that reducing environmental protection through streamlined rules could lead to increased water pollution costs for state and local governments.  Quoting his favorite founding father and early swimmer, Ben Franklin, Audubon's Eric Draper said the state's current economic woes are not caused by environmental regulations.  "The same regulations in place now were in place during the boom years," Draper said.  Homebuilders and other interests are seeking to knock back what they call duplicative environmental permitting.  However many of the proposed solutions would prevent careful review of permits and limit citizen involvement and third party challenges.   See article in St. Petersburg Times.
