SB 360: Eliminating Wildlife Protections?

This bill would eliminate transportation concurrency and Development of Regional Impact (DRI) requirements in counties with densities of 1000 people per square mile or more. While this is acceptable for truly urban areas, the 1000/sq. mi. threshold will mean that counties like Hillsborough, Orange and Palm Beach will qualify, removing the important wildlife considerations of the DRI process from developments proposed in these counties’ extensive rural areas.

On Monday, March 9, Audubon sent a letter to members of the Senate Policy and Steering Committee on Ways and Means asking them to refine the definition of "urban" in the bill so that the intended relief would affect "true urban" areas and would not inadvertently relax wildlife protections in rural areas.
