Audubon Helps Preserve an Important Rookery

Halifax Audubon President David Hartgrove (pictured) and Audubon of Florida Director of Advocacy Charles Lee worked to derail approval of a 14-story hotel project threatening bird rookeries in Port Orange Sanctuary. The 14-story hotel would have overshadowed a rookery active with hundreds of breeding pairs of pelicans, great egrets and other wading birds. The project was proposed as a comprehensive plan amendment, and zoning change.  For further information see this Daytona Beach News Journal story.
