South Florida Is Being Invaded...And Don't Think Campy Sci-fi from the 50's

A female Burmese python was recently found on the L-67 levee south of Tamiami Trail. She was pregnant, carrying a clutch of 59 eggs. This is sobering proof that giant snakes, such as the python, are breeding in the wild and potentially in our backyards.

The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is starting to heed the warnings and take action against further influxes of invasive species. ''These are not little snakes running around. These are massive, dangerous animals,'' said district spokesman Randy Smith. The district is supporting a House bill that would end the import and breeding of a whole set of invading species.
