The debate on national climate and energy legislation is heating up and your help is needed to keep America and Florida on track to reduce global warming pollution, increase green jobs, and achieve energy independence.

Florida is ground zero. We will experience serious consequences of climate change ranging from stronger hurricanes, storms and storm surges, more intense droughts, ocean acidification and persistent sea level rise. Audubon science demonstrates that birds are already changing wintering grounds as a result of seasonal changes brought on by carbon pollution in the atmosphere.

Strong national climate and energy policy to cap global warming pollution and strengthen renewable energy and energy efficiency will protect our environment from the worst impacts of global warming and will stimulate green jobs and save consumers money. National policy will also create a carbon market and generate revenues that would be used in part to fund programs to enable natural habitats and wildlife to adapt to the effects of climate change.

Urge Governor Crist to Appoint a Strong Climate Advocate

-------------------------------------------------------------------

In coming weeks, Governor Charlie Crist will make an important decision about the future of Florida's environmental and energy security. He will appoint a Senator to fill the seat vacated by Senator Mel Martinez on Friday, August 7, 2009.

Whoever Governor Crist chooses for this seat will be a member of Congress when the U.S. Senate considers important climate and energy legislation this year. Since his Serve to Preserve Climate Change Summits, Governor Crist has led and advanced important solutions to climate change. He has an opportunity to continue that leadership by choosing a successor to Senator Mel Martinez who will make advancing climate solutions a top priority in Congress. Urge Governor Crist to appoint a strong climate advocate.

Thank House Members for Their Vote to Pass Climate Legislation

--------------------------------------------------------------------

The House of Representatives narrowly passed the American Clean Energy and Security Act and the Florida House members were important in their support for the bill despite strong pressure to oppose it.

Thank Florida's delegation: Send a thank you letter to Congressman Allen Boyd, Congresswoman Kathy Castor, Congresswoman Suzanne Kosmas and Congressman Alan Grayson.
