Straw Poll: 28 to 24 in Favor of Drilling.

The oil drilling debate reached a Capitol Tiger Bay luncheon yesterday. Apparently, proponents for oil drilling were labeling those against oil drilling as a "radical left-wing fringe of voters." Well, when the vote is as close as it was, I don't think anyone has the luxury to employ words like radical, left-wind, or fringe.

"Let's be honest with ourselves about energy," said Barney Bishop, president of Associated Industries of Florida and the pro-drilling debater at yesterday's luncheon. "We need it. We need a lot of it. We have God-given resources out in the Gulf of Mexico." That may be true, but the amount of oil being touted in the media, 3 billion barrels, would only satisfy America's oil consumption for three or four months. You would stand to make bigger energy gains through conservation measures, which would not only be cleaner, but also CHEAPER.
