Hernando Audubon and National Public Lands Day

Hernando Audubon members at National Public Lands Day - September 26, 2009 - (from left to right) Sheila Wollam, Vera Huckaby, Joe Murphy and Mary Dowdell.  Hernando chapter members were joined by other volunteers and spent the morning working at Fickett Hammock, a designated 'Environmentally Sensitive Lands' site, and one of five locations selected for clean-up by event organizers.  The preserve is named in honor of Steve Fickett, an early champion of conservation in this area who was a leader and mainstay of Hernando Audubon for many years. This is the second year in which Hernando Audubon has been a local sponsor of this national event.
