Broward County Commission, Support Two Day-A-Week Irrigation

Background: The Broward County Commission has proposed a two day-a-week landscape irrigation ordinance. This rule is an important step in curbing wasteful and unnecessary water use practices within Broward County. Audubon supports this proposed ordinance as we recognize that water conservation is an essential tool to ensure the long-term sustainability of Florida’s valuable and finite freshwater resources.

Several utilities and businesses oppose the rule as they prefer to encourage superfluous water use in order to make more money. These entities are arguing against conservation rather than adapting to Florida’s water needs by providing better planning in their operations. The opposition to this rule is being funded by you, the ratepayers.

How You Can Help: The Broward County Commission will be holding a public hearing at 2pm on January 12th and will be discussing this issue. If you live in Broward County, ask your County Commissioners to support reduced water waste by encouraging them to adopt the two day-a-week landscape irrigation conservation ordinance. Make your voice heard – protect your drinking water and water for the environment.
