TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - On Thursday, March 2, Audubon Florida will recognize Tallahassee artist W. Stanley “Sandy” Proctor with the Lifetime Achievement for Nature in the Arts award. Tallahassee Mayor Pro-Tempore Gil Ziffer will also present a proclamation by the City of Tallahassee honoring Proctor’s achievements.  

World renowned for his award-winning bronze sculptures, Florida native Sandy Proctor began his career as a stone carver and painter. His reputation grew with his series of paintings of 30 North Florida bird species. Proctor’s works have been exhibited in the Smithsonian, the Royal Scottish Academy, the British Museum of Natural History, and the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Museum. Proctor has also been the featured artist in the Plantation Wildlife Art Festival and was inducted into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame in 2006.  

“Sandy Proctor is a Tallahassee treasure. His art captures the beauty of wildlife while reminding us to appreciate the gift that is the beauty of wild Florida,” said Eric Draper, executive director of Audubon Florida. “Sandy reminds us of that great artist John James Audubon who brought the natural world to life, and he reminds us that art can awaken in everyone a passion for life and nature.” 

The award presentation and proclamation will take place at Audubon Florida’s Conservation and Cocktails celebration in his honor on Thursday, March 2 at 5:30 p.m. at the Swan House (497 Woodbrook Dr., Tallahassee, FL 32312).
