The Voice of Conservation in Florida

For more than a century Audubon has encouraged people to take care of the places that make Florida special. Using science to guide our priorities and birdlife to measure ecosystem health, Audubon advocates for the protection of land, water, and wildlife. Audubon is Florida’s most influential conservation organization and conducts extensive work to protect the Everglades and coastal bird habitats. We manage sanctuaries covering thousands of acres along with two popular nature centers. Audubon promotes stewardship and appreciation of public land and water so people experience and cherish Florida’s natural beauty and wildlife.

Least Terns Get the Most From School

Audubon's innovative rooftop nesting program helps Least Terns adapt to a changing landscape in the Florida Panhandle.

It's official! Snowy Plovers have started laying their first nests of their Spring/Summer nesting season!

Snowy Plovers and other beach-nesting birds lay their eggs directly on the sand and shells of the upper beach. Here are some helpful tips for a successful beach-nesting bird season (for birds AND humans!):

  1. Give a wide berth to posted nesting areas
  2. Never intentionally force birds to fly
  3. Keep pets away from nesting areas
  4. Do not feed wildlife
  5. Spread the word about beach-nesting wildlife!

For more information on shorebirds and on how you can become a Coastal Bird Steward with Audubon Florida, please email flconservation@audubon.org.

Thank you!

Governor Scott and Florida Cabinet Buy Major Conservation Easements in Dixie and Pasco Counties

The Governor and Cabinet voted yesterday to purchase an 8,000-acre conservation easement from Lyme Timber Company in Dixie County, near Cross City. This incredibly beautiful property hugs the Gulf Coast and has important tributaries to creeks leading to the Gulf and their headwaters inside its boundaries

In Pasco County, an easement covering 600 acres was purchased over the Phillips-Mathis Ranch  just west of I-75 and south of SR 52. This ranch is directly in the path of immediate development, and the purchase of this easement will protect the Cypress Creek Preserve and Cypress Creek Wellfield.
