In a letter today to South Florida Water Management District Governing Board Executive Pete Antonacci, Senator Lizbeth Benacquisto urged that plans for water storage south of Lake Okeechobee be added to federal and state project plans.
Responding the letter, Audubon Florida executive director Eric Draper said, “Her request is a helpful approach to reduce discharges to coastal estuaries. In order to move water south and reduce discharges, the agencies in charge of Everglades restoration must plan the necessary storage and treatment projects. There is no reason for delay. The Senator’s request should help move the planning process forward.”
