Audubon Florida Applauds Representative Gayle Harrell’s Everglades Leadership

New bill will dedicate funding to protecting birds, habitat, and waterways vital to the Greater Everglades Ecosystem.

Audubon Florida was present at today’s press conference with Representative Gayle Harrell and Senate President-Designate Joe Negron. Representative Harrell unveiled her new “Legacy Florida” bill, designed to help protect the waters, habitat, and wildlife of the Greater Everglades Ecosystem.

Statement from Celeste De Palma, Audubon Florida Everglades Policy Associate:

“Water is the lifeblood of the Everglades. But it is not only important for our birds and wildlife. Everglades water is essential for Florida’s people and our economy. Thanks to Representative Harrell’s good bill, the future of the Everglades and our vibrant coastal estuaries is much brighter. The bill will provide a source of stable funding needed to prevent the ‘stops and starts’ that have plagued restoration efforts for decades. Consistent funding will allow for faster implementation of the restoration projects needed to repair this unique habitat. Wood Storks, Roseate Spoonbills, and other iconic Florida birds will benefit from this good legislation.”
